On May 17, the West Central Cluster held a workshop concerning the Marriage Protection Amendment and what we should do about it. Joe Saunders, Statewide Field Director of Fairness for All Families, participated. They generated ideas on how each congregation can address this amendment and how we can work with other faith communities.
On May 9-11, five speakers held lectures and training while attendees connected with other Humanists groups throughout Florida to make friendships, exchange ideas, talk about issues and make a difference
On April 19, the Cluster is sponsored with the Spirit of Life UUs for an Ethics Workshop with ethics instructor George Sherman. In a highly interactive workshop format, attendees explored ethical questions in light of recent scientific findings about how the brain works. People left the workshop with a greater understanding of the questions and possibly with some answers. Attendees also set a course and goals for their future.
November 29, we had our annual Cluster Holiday Service at the Tarpon Springs Church. This year we had a mock radio program featuring Rev. Alec Craig and Jeff Harper as co-hosts. Bonnie Whitehurst lead the all cluster choir. There were skits with the cluster players, and a memorable talk by Rev. Weston Stevens. The collection, less expenses, was donated to the UUSC.

November 3, the Cluster sponsored the Best Practices Workshop at the UUs of Clearwater. This workshop was to help the participating societies prepare for the Tampa Bay Marketing Campaign that would run from February through April. Valerie Holton, Rev. Kenn Hurto and others from the UUA led the effort with many local experts addressing specific aspects of congregational life in work sessions. This was a very successful effort. We all took back good ideas on how to be doing our best when visitors called.
The West Central Cluster kicked off the 07/08 church year with the annual cluster picnic at the Spirit of Life UUs in Odessa, Oct. 13. Turnout was good and the original play "An Alien Will Land During this Service" was presented by the Cluster Players.
